NFL Odds: Reggie Bush Out At Least Six Weeks

by Best Betting on September 21, 2010

The good news is the New Orleans Saints won on Monday Night Football. The bad new is they've lost running back Reggie Bush for at least six weeks according to ESPN. Oh and the Saints failed to cover the -6 spread — that's bad luck for some of you bettors out there.

Bush was fielding a punt in the Saints 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers Monday night. Unfortunately, he bobbled the catch, dove for the ball, and in the pileup had his legs were trampled. The former USC star couldn't put weight on his right leg when he emerged.

"I'm just trying not to think the worst and just try to stay as positive as I can in this situation," Bush said. "That's all you can do, hope for the best."

It's been a brutal start to Bush's 2010 NFL season. USC recently erased him from their history books after it was revealed that he was getting illegal handouts in college, then he had to give back his 2005 Heisman trophy, and now this. Maybe he should have stuck with Kim Kardashian after all.

Bush was seen on crutches after the game.

Reggie's gone but there's still football to be played. Be a player, bet on NFL Odds in the Bodog Sportsbook.

Kevin Kolb to replace Michael Vick as starting QB

by Best Betting Sports News on September 20, 2010

Michael Vick will not start at QB in Week 3

When the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, they will do so without Michael Vick at quarterback, a fit they grown familiar with over the season’s first two weeks – Vick even started in Week 2 after filling in for an injured Kevin Kolb in Week 1. The demotion, however, is no personal sleight on Vick.

Whether Eagles fans will perceive it that way is a different story altogether.

In Week 2 Vick threw for 284 yards while connecting for two touchdowns and a QB rating of 108.0. The Eagles managed to win that game against the Detroit Lions but will have their work cut out for them in the future if they plan on making the post-season. The Bodog Sportsbook gives the Eagles 40/1 odds of winning the Super Bowl.

Though Vick’s stat line in Week 1 might not quite equate to MVP numbers, the fact that he’ll lose the starting QB job to recently-cleared Kolb might not sit well with some Birds fans.

Head coach Andy Reid will go with his four-year-vet on Sunday, after the 26-year-old was taken out of Week 1 with a head injury.

At 1-1, the Eagles will look to come out of Florida with a big win this weekend as they brace themselves for a reunion with former quarterback Donovan McNabb. Just this summer, McNabb left the club to join the Washington Redskins after 11 years with the franchise.

How will the city react to Kolb starting at QB despite a shaky performance pre-injury in Week 1? Or more importantly, how will the team react? That’s for you to decide with the help of the Bodog Sportsbook.

NFL Odds: Bills Switch to Ryan Fitzpatrick at Quarterback

by Best Betting on September 20, 2010

The Buffalo Bills are probably the worst team in the NFL this season, with the team at 0-2 and having scored all of 17 total points. And now Buffalo is one of two teams to make an early-season quarterback change (Carolina being the other) as coach Chan Gailey has decided to replace Trent Edwards with Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Edwards has completed 29-of-55 passes (55.1 percent) for 241 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in losses to Miami and Green Bay. He has been sacked seven times. The Bills have yet to top 200 yards of offense in either game of their games against the Dolphins or Packers. They have the league's worst offense, averaging 176 yards per game, and rank next-to-last in scoring at 8.5 points per game.

Fitzpatrick has 21 touchdowns and 27 interceptions for a 67.7 quarterback rating through his career. The Bills were 5-4 in games in which Fitzpatrick played a majority of playing time in 2009 – he started eight games, completing 55.9 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. This week the Bills play at New England, where they've not won since the 2000 season.

"He's going to take the reins, and see where that takes us,” Gailey said. “We're looking for a spark. We're looking for something that gives us a new look, a new thought process. … We're looking for the right combination. We haven't found that yet."

Fitzpatrick signed a three-year, $8.25 million deal with Buffalo in March 2009 which included roughly $3 million guaranteed. He beat out Brian Brohm to start the season as the No. 2 quarterback but he’s certainly not the long-term answer. It’s almost a lock that Buffalo takes a quarterback high in the 2011 draft.

Rangers captain Chris Drury breaks finger

by Best Betting on September 20, 2010

Chris Drury out four weeks with broken finger

The NHL has been plagued with broken bone injuries since teams resumed practicing before training camp, the latest to New York Rangers captain Chris Drury. Over the weekend it was announced that both Patrice Cormier and Filip Kuba were the victims of similar fate.

Last year, 34-year-old Drury put up a disappointing 32 points in 77 games, by far the lowest mark of his 11-year career. Now, on the verge of a new season where the center would certainly look to bounce back, he'll have to miss four weeks with a broken digit.

The New York Rangers have 40/1 odds of winning the Stanley Cup, but much of even that hinges on the veteran leadership and example set by their captain. Without Drury it will be tough for the team to come out of the gates swinging like they did just last year.

Though the Rangers began the 2009-10 season amongst the Eastern Conference's best, it wouldn't last long as the team eventually fell out of the playoff picture altogether. In order to replicate the surprising feat and this time make it last, the team will need winger Marian Gaborik to string together another healthy season.

Last year Gaborik finished with 86 points in 76 games. Although his point-per-game production has never been a concern (ie; it hasn't dipped below 1.00 in the last five seasons) his ability to stay on the ice in one piece has.

Provided Drury bounces back from his injury, Gaborik proves that last season's bout of complete health was no fluke and standout rookie Michael Del Zotto puts in a respectable follow up to an amazing first-year campaign, the puck may fall in New York's favor.

They'll have their work cut out for them in the East however, as the Washington Capitals (13/2 odds of winning the Stanley Cup) and Pittsburgh Penguins (7/1 odds of winning the Stanley Cup) will no doubt be ready to thwart any mid-level clubs that sneak into the playoff picture come post-season time.

NHL futures are live at Bodog.com, so don't sit back and wait for the regular season to begin on Oct. 7. Get in the game and bet now.

Katy Perry and Rihanna Party In Vegas For Bachelorette Party

by Best Betting on September 20, 2010

Pop singer, Katy Perry partied down in Vegas this weekend together with a mob of friends, after Rihanna organized the ultimate girly bachelorette party taking them all over Sin City.

Perry,25, and her fiancée, Russell Brand are expected to be married later this year in India according to her best friend Rihanna who accidentally leaked the info on a radio show. While Perry is busy planning her wedding, Rihanna had quite a task on her hands – to create the ultimate bachelorette party.

"I have to come up with something cool, because she's getting married in India," Rihanna said in April. "So I'm like, 'OK, now what do I do to match that?' "

The girls started their Saturday off to a great start with a poolside party at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino together with a group of 25 girls where they drank, ate and strutted their stuff. According to the NY Daily News, the pool party was pretty tame but it was only the beginning of the festivities. The girls then moved on to catch the latest Cirque du Soleil production, KA at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino via Hummer limo.

The festivities continued throughout the evening including dinner at Ago followed by a VIP evening at XS Nightclub. Since these girls aren’t amateurs to the party scene, then you could only expect the party to continue, which it did, at the Sapphire strip club.

The girls had quite an evening to where Katy tweeted: “Signing up for a liver transplant now.” Now that's a sign of a good night out.

NFL Week 2 Odds: New Orleans Saints at San Francisco 49ers

by Best Betting on September 20, 2010

The San Francisco 49ers were many experts’ pick as the “sleeper” team in the NFL this season, but the Niners laid a giant egg in Week 1, losing 31-6 at Seattle – and that loss looks even worse now with the Seahawks getting pushed around by Denver on Sunday. Is Week 2 too early to have a must-win game? Maybe, but we certainly should learn more about the 49ers following tonight’s home opener against the reigning Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. The champs are 6.5-point favorites on Bodog’s NFL odds and there is live betting available.

San Francisco QB Alex Smith was 26 of 45 for 225 yards in the opener but didn’t throw a touchdown and had two picks. The running game was nonexistent – 49 yards on 19 carries. The 49ers were just 1 of 15 on third down. The Niners should get a boost on defense tonight as linebacker Ahmad Brooks will make his season debut after sustaining a lacerated kidney during practice Aug. 6. Brooks had five sacks in San Francisco's final five games last year as the 49ers led the NFL with 27 sacks over the last half of the season.

The Saints, meanwhile, beat the Vikings 14-9 in their opener and got a few extra days to prepare for this one with that game on a Thursday night. Drew Brees completed 27 of 36 passes for 237 yards and one touchdown in the Saints’ lowest-scoring victory since Sean Payton took over as coach.

New Orleans has won five in a row in this series and eight of 10 – the teams haven’t met since 2008. Brees has thrown for at least 300 yards in each of his last five appearances on Monday Night Football, the longest streak in the history of the game (since 1970). Brees is 4-0 against the Niners in his career, passing for 1,221 yards and 10 touchdowns with only two interceptions. San Francisco, which was 4-0 in the preseason, hasn’t started 0-2 since 2004.

MLB Odds: Rays (Garza) at Yankees (Nova)

by Best Betting on September 20, 2010

On Monday, the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees kick off a four-game series on MLB odds that could very well decide the American League East. Though the battle will likely come down to the last few games of the season, either team could grab a stranglehold with a few wins this week.

Matt Garza (14-8, 3.88 ERA) will start for the Rays, and he’s desperate for a quality outing. The right-hander has been pummeled in his last two starts, allowing six runs in each and never lasting more than 4.2 innings.

Facing the Yankees isn’t likely to change his fortunes — they did the most recent pummeling, winning 8-7 in Garza’s most recent start. He was solid if unspectacular in his other start against New York this year, allowing four runs through seven innings. Over his career, Garza is 1-3 with a 4.11 ERA in 11 career games (10 starts) against the Bronx Bombers.

New York will send Ivan Nova (1-0, 4.30 ERA) to the mound. The rookie has a ton of pressure on him, as he’s making just his eighth career appearance and fifth career start. One of those starts was last week’s 8-7 win over the Rays, though Nova didn’t exactly carry the team; he was knocked around for six runs in just 4.2 innings of work.

Tampa Bay is 8-6 against the Yankees this season. They’ve hit .260 and averaged 5.1 runs per game in those meetings. New York, meanwhile, is batting .251 during the season series. The Yanks have scored just as much, though, producing only two fewer runs (71 to 69) compared to Tampa Bay in this series.

MLB season is in the stretch run. Bet on it at Bodog!

WPT Borgota Bursts At Seams

by Best Betting on September 20, 2010

It seems that while everyone else is keeping up with the WSOP Europe event in London, the World Poker Tour's Borgata Poker Open quietly managed to become the "it" event in the US this weekend, attracting over a thousand players for the $3,5000 event. Day 1a's leader, Jeff Papola, stood strong against a relatively-modest 315 players that competed on Saturday. Sunday, however, was the day to play with 727 pros and amateurs showing up to compete for the first-place prize estimated to be nearly $1,000,000.

While many of the world's biggest players are in London for the WSOPE, there's still quite a few recognizable names in this year's docket: Kathy Lieber, Jonathan Little and Jerry Yang were all seen at the tables on Sunday. A good deal of the Borgata's success this year may stem from the reduced buy-in of $3,500 versus the $10,000 standard that has been the norm for the WPT.

Day 2 of Borgata will see 641 survivors duking it out. Right now, the chip leader is Vincenzo Abate, who is the only player so far to cross the 200,000 chip mark this early in the tournament. Day 2 starts at 11AM Eastern today and will continue for eight levels.

World Series of Poker Europe Update: Event #2 Wrapup!

by Best Betting on September 20, 2010

Jeff Lisandro, the 2009 WSOP player of the year, won his fifth career bracelet this weekend after a particularly exciting final table in event #2 of the World Series of Poker Europe event, behind held in London's Empire Casino in Leicester square. Event #2 in the WSOPE lineup was a Pot Limit Omaha championship and it's been part of the schedule every year since the original. Previous champions in the Pot Limit Omaha tournament include Italy's Dario Alioto in 2007, Theo Jorgensen from Denmark in 2008 and Finland's Jani Vilmunen in 2009.

Joseph Serock, a 22-year-old pro from Albuquerque, New Mexico got second place and won £98,262 for the experience of a lifetime: taking on one of the best poker players out there in an enthralling tournament. Over two dozen players in the Pot Limit Omaha event were former WSOP bracelet winners and many of the others in the field were among the top PLO players in Europe.

Serock fought valiantly in the last few hands and proved worthy of everyone's respect throughout the tournament, but there's a reason the pro from Italy via Australia has won four bracelets in the last 15 months. Besides Lisandro, there were four other WSOP gold bracelet winners at the final table, including Chris Bjorin, Willie Tann and Jeff Madsen and two of the finalists were also WSOP Player Of The Year winners. A stunning lineup and Serock's ability to keep his cool makes him someone to watch out for.

Darelle Revis leaves game with hamstring injury

by Best Betting Sports News on September 19, 2010

Darelle Revis has hurt his hamstring

Although the New York Jets managed to get their offense going against the New England Patriots on Sunday, they lost the services of cornerback Darelle Revis who left the game in the first half with a hamstring injury.

Just two weeks ago Revis signed a four-year contract to return to the Jets, right before the team’s Week 1 match up with the the Baltimore Ravens. Though they lost that first game, they won in Week 2 with a 28-14 victory over the Patriots.

In Week 2 Revis left the game after pulling the muscle on a second quarter possession that saw a Patriots touch down between Tom Brady and Randy Moss.

In just his fourth year as a pro, 25-year-old Revis will be anxious to return to the field after picking off six interceptions in 2009 for a total of 121 yards, but won’t be able to do so if he can’t keep up with the elite wide receivers in the NFL.

With Revis injured, the Jets turned to cornerback Antonio Cromartie to help stop the Pats’ attack and watched as the 26-year-old nabbed his second interception of the year.
